The past few days have been full of meeting even more people as well as working on a community cleanup project. Karmy and I were first introduced to the project our first week but have only been actively working on the project for a few days. This cleanup project combines both the Child Lake community and the Boyer River community to clean up the roads of any garbage that might be there. There will also be a community BBQ afterwards as a thank you to those who participated.
Alongside planning this activity, Karmy and I helped a member of the community with hauling groceries into a building that used to be used for Covid patients. I currently do not know what this building is being used for now though. Throughout the entire time that we were helping the community member, we were fighting with the mosquitoes that are steadily picking up in numbers (we are told that the bugs are only going to get worse! What!!!!) It was also this day that we had our first thunderstorm of the summer. I love storms and the rain even though I had different views of storms when I was younger.
The next day was the first time that Karmy and I got to spend time at the Rocky Lane Ag Hall. Karmy and I were invited to attend a workshop named “The Spirit of Positivity” by Earl Lambert. Earl is an Cree-Metis motivational speaker who combines topics like self love and worth with laughter, music and fun. What Karmy and I were not prepared for was the food that was provided and the gifts that those who attended were able to win. I won a set of pink towels (pink is my favorite color) and lunch was hamburgers, salad, bannock and stew, fruit and donuts. After the workshop had finished, Karmy and I were able to take all of the leftovers home. It feels as though I will never get through the groceries that I have bought because the community keeps giving us food. By the end of the day, my cheeks were hurting from smiling all day, and felt warm and fuzzy from all that was said during the workshop.
