The day after our first community event and the weekend prior to the IRS Commemoration, Karmy and I decided that it would be a good idea to go explore surrounding towns. We first started out on our adventure in La Crete, a small town (also known as a hamlet) about 30 minutes away from the reserve. The drive to the town was very nice and scenic, lots of green trees and grass everywhere (something not seen very much back home). What surprised us the most was how the small town was not really small. They had many amenities that most small towns do not normally have. Karmy and I went to every grocery store offered in the town to find the best deals. In one store, I found seasoned pork chops that were reasonably priced and decided that I was going to make some sort of pork lettuce wraps (spent most of the following week eating it as there was so much meat!). As we were leaving town, we were racing a rain storm because we did not want to try to bring our groceries in when it is pouring outside. We just so happened to make it before it started raining and just minutes after bringing in our groceries, it started to pour.
The next day, Karmy and I slept in and were planning on not doing anything. This quickly changed as It was decided that we were going to go drive and try to find something pretty and maybe find some wildlife. We headed out early in the afternoon, with the goal of finding something new and exciting. We drove up and down random dirt roads and found some cool stuff. We found the Eagle’s Nest Ministry Center, some horses and some beautiful scenery.
During some parts of our adventure, we did not have cell reception, so it was crucial that we remember what side of the highway we were on so we could turn around and head back the way we came if we got lost. Upon returning back to the loft, Karmy and I had a relaxing evening spending time together, knowing that the week ahead of us was going to be full of work, getting ready for the event on the upcoming weekend.
