A Day Full of Firsts

Writer's picture: hcook77hcook77

Today was a great day full of fun and exciting adventures which started just like any other day. Saturday was a very rainy day which prohibited us from planting the plants that were bought the following day. Today was slowly turning out to be a very busy day from the moment we awoke.

The first adventure that Karmy and I undertook was a trip into High Level by ourselves for the first time. After some guessing and some wrong turns, we finally made it to High Level to get some last minute groceries. This trip also allowed us to explore the area and to see what we could see. Upon returning to the fire hall, we rushed to put our groceries away and to get ready to go to the community garden.

I at first thought that I would not like gardening but the time slipped away from us (Karmy, myself and a community member with their daughter) as we were talking about everything under the sun. The community member also brought their seven week old puppy who wanted to be with me everywhere I went. At one point, I was busy pulling weeds from the strawberry patch and the puppy was in between my legs trying to get belly rubs. This was a delight as I love puppies (who could not love little bundles of joy) and I dearly miss my dog Henry.

After a couple busy hours gardening (including planting green onions, bell peppers and cucumbers) the community member invited Karmy and I for dinner at their place. The community member made homemade beef hamburgers with the fixings, french fries and corn ( definitely one of the best burgers I have had in a while). I got to spend a lot of time with the community members' children and was very grateful that I got to spend some time with the community member, getting to know them really well. When it was finally time to leave, we left with very full bellies and an armful of leftovers!

On the drive back to the fire hall, Karmy and I spent the time talking about how the day was perfect, busy but perfect! These are the days that I will always remember, especially because it was a day full of firsts!
